ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s caretaker government has announced that petrol prices will remain unchanged for the next fortnight till January 15, 2024. The official notification from the finance ministry stated that the decision to maintain current petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices was made in accordance with the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Petrol will continue to be available at the current rate of Rs.267.34 per liter, while HSD will be sold at Rs.276.21 per liter. The price of light diesel oil (LDO) was increased by Rs1.11 to Rs165.75 per liter.
The prices will be applicable over the next fortnight, starting from January 1, 2024, “as recommended by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority”.
In the previous fortnight, the caretaker government had reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs14 and Rs13.50 per liter, respectively. According to the Ministry of Finance, the new prices of petrol and HSD were set at Rs267.34 and Rs276.21.
It is worth mentioning that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), in its annual report on the past fiscal year, forecasted that the inflation rate would ease to 20-22% in the financial year 2023-24, as the country heads to the February 8 general elections.
