ABBOTTABAD: A hearing to address the issues brought by senior teachers affected by the promotion amendment policy issued by the Secondary Education Department of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been set for September 6 by the Abbottabad Bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The District Education Officer (DEO) female Abbottabad Dilshad Begum issued 129 promotion orders, which led to the petition and the issuance of contempt of court notices. The DEO exempted teachers who requested legal settlement of their problems through the court. The absence of other teachers, however, has resulted in disciplinary action.

The teachers will be represented at the upcoming hearing on September 6 at the PHC Abbottabad Bench by renowned attorney Arshad Tanoli. The Female Education Department in Abbottabad has received notices from the court regarding this situation.

Several head teacher posts in the area are still unfilled, which impacts the education of female students, said a female Abbottabad who served as the district’s education officer. While urging other teachers to return to their respective schools, she told teachers who had petitioned the court to wait for its ruling.

It is important to note that on June 6, 2023, the promotion policy announcement was released, making promotions compulsory. For teachers who declined promotions, immediate disciplinary action has been taken under the guidelines. —APP
