PHILADELPHIA, USA: Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed a lawsuit on Monday to block a sweepstakes organized by Elon Musk’s America PAC, which is reportedly distributing $1 million daily in battleground states to support Donald Trump’s campaign.
Krasner, a Democrat, contends that the campaign’s “America PAC sweepstakes,” open to those who sign a petition supporting the Constitution, may breach election laws.
Krasner argues it could violate federal laws against paying people to influence voting and claims that Musk’s team may be promoting an “illegal lottery,” thus deceiving consumers.
Philadelphia Judge Angelo Foglietta is set to review the case Thursday, addressing motions in the City Hall courtroom. Matthew Haverstick, an attorney for Musk’s team, did not confirm if Musk would attend the hearing. Election experts have expressed concern that these sweepstakes could influence voter behavior.
Musk, who founded SpaceX and Tesla and currently owns X, has committed over $70 million to America PAC for promoting Trump and Republican candidates in the 2024 elections, suggesting that Trump’s win is critical for “civilization.” The case continues to raise questions about election influence and campaign funding legality.
