ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant has been detained at Canada’s Toronto International Airport for carrying ‘unauthorised’ passports for international travel.

Express News quoted the sources to say that Hina Sani, a member of the cabin crew, arrived in Toronto on PIA Flight PK-789 while she was allegedly found in possession of passports that didn’t belong to her, prompting the airport authorities to confiscate them.

Under the International air travel regulations, use of passports belonging to other individuals is strictly prohibited and constitutes a criminal offence.

According to sources, Sani was traveling with seven other crew members, the Canadian authorities had previously designated as ‘no-fly personnel’.

Interestingly, all the seven had obtained special permission from the ‘DGM Flight Services,’ using DGM’s own IDs, which was a deviation from the standard procedure.

Following preliminary questioning, two members of the cabin crew were permitted to proceed to hotel.

The media outlet quoted a PIA spokesperson as having confirmed that the airline is aware of the situation and is coordinating with Toronto airport authorities.

According to the media report, Hina Sani had been detained in the past for suspected involvement in smuggling illegal items into Canada.
