ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s privatization committee announced that bidding for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set for October 1st.
During a session led by MQM’s Farooq Sattar, it was confirmed that PIA will be the first of the state-owned entities to undergo this process. Sattar expressed a desire to watch the bidding live and indicated that they would request Privatization Minister Aleem Khan to facilitate this.
“This session marks a farewell meeting for PIA,” Sattar noted, adding that six companies are expected to participate in the bidding. He emphasized that the auction would be finalized on the first day of the upcoming month.
Sattar also reassured that the committee would prioritize employee rights in the aftermath of the sale, stating, “There will be no bargaining over the salaries and allowances of the employees.”
