ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended all flights that use Iranian airspace following Iran’s large-scale missile attack on Israel.
The national carrier announced that it is redirecting its flight routes until further notice as it monitors the evolving situation.
Temporary Suspension of Key Corridors
A PIA spokesperson stated that directives have been issued to flight captains and operations teams to avoid Iranian airspace for safety reasons. This change affects flights to destinations such as the UAE, Bahrain, Doha, and Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, flights to Canada and Turkey, which usually pass through the Northern Corridor of Iranian airspace, have also been rerouted.
“The Iranian airspace will remain off-limits until the situation is clarified,” the spokesperson said, highlighting the need for caution amid ongoing conflict.
This decision comes in response to Iran’s missile strikes on Israel, with reports indicating that hundreds of ballistic missiles were launched toward Israeli targets. While foreign media outlets have suggested around 400 missiles were fired, Israeli officials confirmed at least 102 missiles were launched.
