MANILA: A small plane with four people on board including two passengers, a pilot and another crew member has crashed in Albay province of Philippines and rescuers were searching for aircraft survivors on Sunday, officials said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said in a statement that the Cessna 340 plane went missing on Saturday morning shortly after departing for Manila from Bicol International Airport in Albay province.

The aviation regulator said that a search-and-rescue team has located a possible crash site near the Bicol International Airport.

The CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said that the bad weather is hampering the visibility of the ground search.

Philippines’s authorities verifying debris

Disaster officials said the debris of a Cessna aircraft was found near the crater of the active Mayon volcano however authorities were still verifying whether it was the same plane that went missing on Saturday.

Officials were waiting for clearance from authorities to reach the crash site because the active volcano could erupt at any time.
