PM Shehbaz Sharif arrives in Turkiye to express solidarity with the quake-hit nation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Turkiye on Thursday to express solidarity with the Turkish people in the wake of a deadly earthquake a couple of days before.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkiye Dr Yousaf Junaid and officials from the Government of Turkiye received the prime minister.

Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi, and National Disaster Management Authority Chairman Lt-Gen Inam Haider accompanied the prime minister.

Earlier, taking to his Twitter handle, the prime minister said,

During his two-day stay, Shehbaz Sharif will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will convey heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire Pakistani nation over the tragic loss of lives and the widespread damage.

He will reiterate Pakistan’s firm commitment to stand by the Turkish people during difficult times and extend all possible support to the relief activities.  

Shehbaz Sharif also visits the earthquake-affected areas in southern parts of Turkiye, and will meet with the Pakistani rescue teams deputed there as well as survivors of the tragic earthquake.

Earlier on February 6, the prime minister spoke to President Erdogan and assured him of all possible support for the rescue and relief efforts in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that had hit southern Turkiye in the morning on that day.

All available resources have been fully mobilized to help the Turkish people and the prime minister is personally overseeing the relief effort.

Pakistan and Turkiye enjoy deep fraternal relations. The two sides have resolutely stood by each other during every trial and tribulation.
