PM Shehbaz Sharif to Advocate for Global Issues at UN General Assembly

NEW YORK, USA: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is set to participate in the high-level segment of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from Monday to Friday.

His address on Friday will focus on reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the UN’s pivotal role in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.

During his speech, the Prime Minister intends to highlight critical issues on the UN Security Council’s agenda, specifically the Palestine question and the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, both of which have long-standing implications for regional stability. He will also address global economic inequities and advocate for reforms in the international financial system to better support developing nations.

In addition, Shehbaz Sharif will urge the international community to take urgent action against climate change and combat the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia. His schedule includes participation in various high-level meetings, such as the “High-Level Meeting on Existential Threat posed by Sea-level Rise” and an Open Debate on “Leadership for Peace” hosted by the UN Security Council.

The Prime Minister is expected to engage with multiple world leaders to discuss strategies for advancing the sustainable development agenda and will hold bilateral meetings, including discussions with the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly. This UNGA session presents an opportunity for Pakistan to strengthen its diplomatic ties and address pressing global challenges.
