ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at supporting overseas Pakistanis, highlighting the creation of special courts dedicated to the swift resolution of their legal matters within the nation.

The announcement came during the First Annual Overseas Pakistanis’ Convention in Islamabad, coinciding with an impressive record of $4.1 billion in remittances, underscoring the vital contributions of the diaspora.

“Dedicated courts have been established in Islamabad to expedite the handling of cases concerning overseas Pakistanis,” the Prime Minister elaborated, revealing plans to extend similar courts across all provinces.

In a bid to enhance accessibility, he announced that members of the Pakistani diaspora would have the option to participate in hearings via video link and benefit from e-filing services.

To further support the community, the Prime Minister declared a 5% quota for overseas Pakistanis in federal universities, with an allocation of 3,000 spots for their children in medical colleges.

He introduced a five-year age relaxation for government job applicants from the overseas community.

Highlighting the commitment to facilitate the diaspora, the PM shared that online registration for sale deeds has been initiated in Punjab, and a dedicated office has been established to assist them within the province.

In a significant development for the region, PM Shehbaz announced plans for the construction of an international airport in Mirpur, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), fulfilling a long-held aspiration of overseas Pakistanis.

Moreover, the Prime Minister pledged that starting this year on August 14, civil awards would be conferred upon 15 overseas Pakistanis annually, celebrating their exceptional contributions across various fields.

“Every year, we will honour the remarkable achievements of our overseas compatriots,” the Prime Minister concluded.
