The entire Thar area is reported to have a total of 175 billion tons of coal reserves. The Geological Survey of Pakistan discovered these coal reserves in 1980s. According to a report by China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, these coal reserves are equivalent to 50 billion tons of oil if tapped fully.
