ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain/wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the mountains in the western and upper parts of the country on Thursday and Friday.
According to PMD, a westerly wave was likely to enter the country on the night of February and likely to grip upper parts on 9 and may persist over northern areas till February 10.
Rain and Snowfall
Under the influence of the said system, rain-wind/thunderstorms and snowfall over the hills with few moderate to isolated heavy showers are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Hattian, Poonch, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Sudhanoti, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Ghizer, Hunza, Ghanche, Gilgit, Shigar), Chitral, Dir, Swat, Manshera, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Haripur, and Abbottabad from February 08-10.
Rain and Hailstorm
Meanwhile, rain/wind/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm is expected in the capital Islamabad, Potohar region, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Faisalabad, Lahore, Toba Tek Singh, Kasur, Jhang, Sheikhupura, Khushab, Nankana Sahib, Mianwali, Sargodha, Peshawar, Charsadda, Karak, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Kohat, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan from February 9 till February 10 (morning).
About the possible impacts, moderate to isolated heavy snowfall may affect and cause the closure of roads in Murree, Galiyat, Kaghan, Naran, Dir Upper, lower, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Neelum valley, Poonch, Bagh, and Haveli from February 08 (evening/night) to February 10.
The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan cannot be ruled out during the forecast period.
Tourists are advised to remain more cautious during the possible coming spell.
