PMD Predicts Rainfall, Snowfall Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has issued forecast predicting rainfall and snowfall across various regions of Pakistan from January 31 (today) to February 4.

In the last 24 hours, the temperatures have varied significantly with Kalam recording a chilly minus 7 degrees Celsius, Islamabad 7 degrees Celsius and Karachi comparatively warmer at 18 degrees Celsius.

The ministry’s advisory warns of possible rain and snow in Balochistan on February 2 and 3, posing a risk of flooding in certain areas. Similarly, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree and Galiat are also expected to experience snowfall accompanied by the threat of landslides and road closures, especially in Galiyat and northern areas.

Apart from Balochistan and northern areas, rainfall is forecast in parts of Sindh including Islamabad, Potohar region, south and central Punjab and Karachi. All relevant authorities have been alerted to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Notable temperature readings include minus 4 degrees Celsius in Skardu and minus 3 degrees Celsius in Rawlakot. Meanwhile, Islamabad and Lahore recorded temperatures of 7 and 8 degrees Celsius respectively, while Karachi remained warmer at 18 degrees Celsius. Peshawar registered at 3 degrees Celsius and Quetta at 8 degrees Celsius.

As weather conditions are expected to affect different regions, residents and authorities are advised to stay informed and take appropriate precautions to ensure safety and mitigate any risks associated with the predicted rain and snow.
