ISLAMABAD: Following the February 8 general elections in Pakistan, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have made significant progress in finalizing recommendations for the formation of the federal government. This development comes as both parties held talks during the third round of coordination committee meetings.
Talks between the two parties were focused on governance issues and outlining a roadmap for the future government. The aim is to address the challenges posed by the current political landscape and chart a course forward.
Meanwhile, amidst countrywide protests alleging election rigging, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has called for patience among all political parties for the sake of the country. Siddiqui emphasized the need to resolve issues through dialogue rather than exacerbating tensions.
MQM-P Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal expressed expectations for a larger mandate in Karachi, citing sacrifices made by the party’s supporters during the election campaign. He urged for calm amidst ongoing protests, underscoring the party’s commitment to democratic principles.
PTI Rules Out Power-Sharing with PPP, PML-N
However, ruling out the possibility of power-sharing with the PML-N and PPP, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) incarcerated founder Imran Khan reaffirmed his stance. PTI’s Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat confirmed Imran Khan’s remarks, emphasizing the party’s commitment to its principles amidst alleged election rigging.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan dismissed reports of a proposed alliance with PTI-P in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He reiterated the party’s assertion of securing 180 National Assembly seats in the general polls. Barrister Gohar Khan emphasized the importance of adhering to transparent election results and asserted the party’s confidence in securing sufficient numbers in the NA to elect its prime minister.
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has confirmed that the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) made an initial contact with him for forming an alliance. “PTI leaders have said that they are coming to visit me,” Fazlur Rehman said, adding that he did not know yet what was their agenda. A delegation-led by former PTI-chairman Gohar Ali Khan will meet JUI-F supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman today.
