LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have reached an agreement for seat adjustments in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8 next year.
The breakthrough occurred when PML-N leader Supremo Nawaz Sharif visited the residence of PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in Lahore, marking his first visit in nearly 15 years, media reports say.
The crucial meeting, which included PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and other prominent leaders, lasted approximately 40 minutes. During the meeting, both parties explored the possibility of forming an electoral alliance and decided to establish separate committees to finalize the details.
The agreed-upon seat adjustment involves two National Assembly constituencies and three Punjab Assembly constituencies. Nawaz Sharif was accompanied by his daughter Maryam Nawaz, PMLN central leaders Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, and Azam Nazeer Tarar, while PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Shafay Hussain were also present in the meeting.
PML-N, PML-Q Alliance for General Elections
Local media reported that the constituencies of PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema and Salik, as well as Shafay’s provincial assembly constituency, are part of the electoral agreement.
During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif inquired about the health of the elderly politician Shujaat Hussain, who had previously served as the country’s prime minister. No official statement, however, was released following the meeting.
This development takes place amidst increased political activity as parties engage in election campaigns and form alliances to strengthen their positions in the upcoming elections.
Nawaz Sharif, a three-time former prime minister, returned to the country in October after almost four years in self-exile in London, aiming to mobilize his supporters ahead of the February 8 elections.
