PM’s Task Force on Gandhara Tourism Calls for Report on Religious Sites

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Task Force on Gandhara Tourism Tuesday directed the relevant departments and authorities to compile a detailed report on rich heritage sites of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism in all provinces, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to promote tourism in the country.

The recently formed PM Task Force’s meeting was chaired by Minster of State Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani here, where all provinces were directed to submit a report having details of 100 sites from each province to unearth the potential of Gandhara civilization in the country.

It was also agreed in the meeting to arrange visits for Ambassadors and other dignitaries to the archaeological sites in different provinces. Meanwhile, concerned officials in the provinces were requested to have briefing arrangements about religious sites in case of future visits from foreign officials and tourists during their festivals.

Buddha’s Sites as Part of Gandhara Tourism

The meeting also discussed marking Buddha’s birthday at Islamabad Museum on May 26 (Friday) where the event will be attended by diplomates, art lovers, officials, and other dignitaries and guests.

The Buddhist community has remarkable monuments in the Gandhara region, being venerated by Buddhists from across the globe. Accordingly, the relevant provincial departments have been advised to engage with the Director General of the Department to facilitate tourists during visits to these sites.

Later the meeting issued directions to all the provincial heritage departments to present a detailed report to the concerned authority by May 30.
