ISLAMABAD: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) staged a play presenting challenges and life of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in a street theater performance here on Wednesday at Bari Imam area Islamabad.
The play titled “Hum Kar Saktay Hain” spins around the life of a young girl with disability issues and the hardships she faced at different levels in her challenging times while her life is also an inspiration for many other such persons when she meets other PWDs and how they achieved their goals.
It also emphasized social attitudes toward persons with disabilities and the challenges they face for their social enclosure. The play is a part of a series of street theater performances by the PNCA to focus on issues related to persons with disabilities, the environment, and other social issues.
The participants of the theatric play were trained in a three-week workshop organized by Pak Women, CBM, and Human and Social Development in partnership with Pakistan NCA for improving access to income-generating activities for youth and adults with and without disabilities in selected leeeeeeeee areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Theater for Persons with Disabilities
The street theater targets at creating awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities by presenting different related stories. Different sessions of the workshop guided young and promising actors and performing art lovers about the theoretical and practical steps of acting.
While talking to APP, Program Organizer and mentor Waqar Azeem, said that PNCA along with senior artists and theater experts provided institutional backing to the theatre lovers in the country and promotion of street theater as well.
The acting course highlighted to utilization of youth’s energy through a platform for backing their inner abilities. It was an attempt to explore the talent of amateur and budding artists for the promotion and preserving the rich culture of Pakistan as well as to refine the talent of these participants, he further said.
The training session focused on involvement of youth in extracurricular activities as well as showing their talent in the field of performing arts and promoting healthy entertainment through the expressions of art.
The ongoing trend of quality and thoughtful theater plays a crucial role in highlighting and resolving the issues like training, education, and social problems. The history of theater is related with the history of human society and it also led to revolutions in shaping communities.
Role of Theater
Stage drama is a strong medium of education and enjoys a unique status among performing arts with reflection and marking of social evils in an entertaining way. along with reviving the concept of theater in the islamabad and Rawalpindi with a theme to promote peace, love, and harmony, the play also aims on highlighting and resolving the issues of society and also bring correction to society through artistic expressions, he said.
