ISLAMABAD: Seven more children succumbed to pneumonia on Saturday, adding to the toll as the disease continues to claim lives in Punjab.
The Punjab Health Department reported 942 new pneumonia cases in the past 24 hours, with Lahore confirming 212 new patients.
During the current month, Punjab has witnessed 244 pneumonia-related deaths, with Lahore alone reporting 50 fatalities. Experts attribute this alarming increase to environmental pollution, particularly smog during the winter season. The winter smog is believed to be a significant contributor to the surge in pneumonia cases.
Pneumonia is a lung infection, often triggered by viruses, and can follow symptoms of a cold or flu. The severity of the infection can vary from mild to severe, with children aged five or younger being more susceptible.
Health authorities in Punjab are actively addressing the spike in pneumonia cases, underscoring the importance of public awareness and preventive measures to mitigate the spread of the infection.
