LAHORE: The pneumonia outbreak has claimed seven more lives in Punjab during past 24 hours.
According to details, the surge in pneumonia is attributed to smog, dry and cold weather.
Punjab recorded 320 new cases during this period, with seven children succumbing to the virus.
In Lahore, one fatality was reported alongside 180 new cases within the same timeframe. Throughout the winter season, Punjab has documented a total of 13,460 cases, with Lahore alone registering 3,020 cases. The province has seen around 300 children lose their lives to the virus, while numerous infants in Lahore remain hospitalized due to chest infections.
Health experts have pinpointed smog and air pollution as primary contributors to the escalating pneumonia cases. Pneumonia, characterized by lung infections, is predominantly caused by viral agents. Young children, particularly those under the age of five, are especially susceptible to the disease.
