WARSAW: Poland has issued a warning about the potential threat of attacks by the Wagner Group amid heightened tensions on the Belarusian border. Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński expressed concern over the “very real” Wagner threat, alleging that the group has already attempted to attack Polish territory.

Tensions between Poland and the Wagner Group have escalated in recent weeks. The Wagner Group, which previously fought alongside Russian troops in the Ukraine war, was exiled to Belarus in late June following an attempted mutiny against Russian military leadership over Moscow’s stagnant invasion. Its presence in Belarus has raised concerns about destabilization across eastern and central Europe, including in Poland, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Poland Warns of Wagner Group Invasion

Polish authorities have specifically warned of the possibility of a Wagner Group invasion aimed at seizing control of the Suwałki Gap, a critical corridor along Poland’s northeastern border that separates Russia from the exclave Kaliningrad.

The situation has put NATO on alert, as any aggression by the Wagner Group on the NATO member’s territory could trigger a response from the alliance. Poland’s security concerns have increased amid the escalating tensions and potential security risks in the region. The situation is being closely monitored by international partners, and measures to safeguard the security and stability of the region are being considered.
