JOHANNESBURG: South African police on Tuesday said they have taken six people in custody over the murder of the country’s hottest rap artists, Kiernan Forbes, commonly known as AKA last year.

The 35-year-old musician was shot down on February 10 last year while strolling with a friend outside a popular restaurant in Durban hours before he was to perform at a nearby club.

Police minister Bheki Cele told a press conference in Durban that six people have been arrested and would be presented before the court on Thursday.

He added the oldest murder suspect was 36 years old and that more could be added to the list.

Provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi told journalists that the mastermind of the incident two gunmen, two spotters and the organiser of weapons and vehicles were taken into custody.

The commissioner said police collaborated with Interpol and the Eswatini government to arrest two people hiding over there and the extradition process would be started soon.

Mkhwanazi said police had a suspicion of the motive behind the murder but would not discuss the matter at the moment.

It was noted that the rapper had been chased from his time of arrival at Durban airport to the restaurant.
