WARSAW: Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk on Monday warned of a dangerous turn for France and Europe after the far-right won the first round of crucial French polls.

“This is all really starting to smell very dangerous,” said former EU chief Tusk. Earlier he made serious allegations about Russian influence in many political parties in Europe.

Tusk talking to journalists Rzeszow, a vital hub for Western aid to Ukraine said even the complete victory of the radical right camp does not signal the loss of power by the centre represented by Macron.

He added that it is a very clear sign of what is happening not only in France but also in some other European states.

The former European Council president also warned of a dangerous trend in Europe saying that France could soon become the sick person of Europe.

He said enemies of Europe and foreign forces are engaged in this process. He did not provide further details about whom he was pointing at.

France witnessed the far-right come in well ahead at the weekend in the first round of legislative polls called after President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to dissolve the National Assembly three weeks earlier.

According to preliminary results, far-right emerged victorious in first place with 33 percent of the vote as compared to 28 percent for the left-wing New Popular Front alliance, and more than 20 percent for Macron’s centrist camp.
