Pope Francis, Pakistan Interior Minister Discuss Promotion of Peace

VATICAN CITY: Interior Minister of Pakistan Mohsin Naqvi has called on the spiritual leader of Christians, Pope Francis at the Vatican City and discussed the promotion of peace, state media reported on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Pope said that harmony and interfaith dialogue are the only solutions to the problems the world faces today.

The two sides reviewed issues related to interfaith harmony and dialogue, promotion of peace and brotherhood.

Pope Francis in his message for the people of Pakistan said we should all work for peace and harmony.

He prayed for the prosperity and development of Pakistan and expressed his best wishes for its people. He also praised the immediate construction and repair of damaged churches after the Jaranwala incident.

Expressing his concern over the situation in Palestine, the Pope said he gets the latest updates about the issue daily by having discussions with the welfare workers in Palestine.

The Interior Minister, speaking on the occasion, commended the services of Pope Francis to make the world a cradle of peace.

Mohsin Naqvi informed the Pope that the protection of minorities in Pakistan is a top priority for the government authorities.

He said our religion, our Prophet, our Constitution and the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah have also stressed the protection and care of minorities. He said the minorities are enjoying equal rights in Pakistan.

The Interior Minister thanked Pope Francis for taking an effective stance on the issue of Palestine.

He also informed the Pope about the sacrifices of Pakistan and actions the country took in war against terrorism.  He said the Pakistani nation and armed forces have rendered matchless and unprecedented sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
