SRINGAR: Posters have surfaced in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling on the people to honor martyrs and designate January 26 as a Black Day in observance of India’s Republic Day.

Scattered across pillars, poles, and walls in various areas of the valley, the posters said the purpose behind paying homage to Kashmiri martyrs and marking January 26 as a Black Day—to voice protest against India’s forceful occupation of their homeland.

Issued by entities such as the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and other Hurriyat organizations in different parts of the region, the posters denounce the so-called Indian Republic Day celebrations in IIOJK as a heartless jest. They convey a resolute message from the people of Kashmir, emphasizing their steadfast rejection of India’s unlawful occupation.

Categorizing India’s Republic Day festivities in IIOJK as a mockery, the posters, also disseminated on social media, urge individuals to offer special prayers on the anniversaries of these tragic events in honor of Kashmiri martyrs.

Simultaneously, Haseeb Wani, spokesperson for the Jammu Kashmir National Front, issued a statement in Srinagar urging Kashmiri residents to observe India’s Republic Day as a Black Day. He said that the oppressive nation, which has denied fundamental rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, lacks justification for celebrating its Republic Day in the occupied territory.

Condemning India’s illegal and coercive occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, Wani highlighted the prolonged infringement of the region’s basic political and democratic rights by Indian forces. Despite assurances of conducting a free and impartial plebiscite to determine the political fate of Kashmir, he asserts that Indian rulers have resorted to violent suppression of Kashmiri aspirations.

Wani further implored the international community to take serious note of India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir, citing it as a primary cause of unrest in the region.
