ISLAMABAD: The cost of power has increased by more than 50 percent since the start of 2022 while inflation has made life extremely difficult for the ordinary person over the past few months.
According to official documentation, fuel adjustments and other fees led to an increase in electricity costs. The basic electricity cost increased by Rs10, according to records from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.
Between January 2022 and March 2023, domestic power rates increased by 50%, according to the records. According to the papers, the home consumer tariff was raised by Rs8.50 during the review period, bringing their power cost from Rs18.04 to Rs26.54.
According to the Nepra records, power costs for commercial consumers increased by Rs11 per unit. According to the records, charges for industrial consumers increased by Rs9.55 while tariffs for agricultural consumers climbed by Rs9.14.
They also disclosed an increase in energy costs from Rs655 billion to Rs1,152 billion. According to the papers, capacity charges jumped from Rs794 billion to Rs1,251 billion, while the expenses of producing power increased by 22%. The total cost of electricity production rose from Rs1,515 billion to Rs2,518 billion.
