ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is set to celebrate its 56th Foundation Day, Youm-e-Tasees, in Quetta on Thursday, November 30 for which the Balochistan Chapter’s leadership and workers have finalized preparations.

The primary celebration will take place in Quetta for the first time. Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, along with other party leaders, is slated to address a large gathering during the grand rally, as per party sources disclosed on Monday.

Emphasizing the importance of widespread participation, the Chairman has issued directives for enthusiastic observance of the Foundation Day. Party leaders and workers are tasked with organizing public meetings across the country.

On November 30, 1967, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto founded the Pakistan Peoples Party. While the party initially attracted individuals from various societal strata, including landlords, capitalists, and chiefs, its roots were firmly embedded in being a party for the marginalized— the poor, labourers, farmers, and students.

The PPP played a pivotal role in empowering the downtrodden class, providing them with a voice and consciousness. Those who were historically deprived found the courage to stand up, as evidenced by the historic rallies that featured slogans against capitalism for the first time in Pakistan’s political history.

During the 1950s and 1960s, a plethora of new leaders emerged globally, with Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto being recognized among the foremost leaders in Asia during the 1960s and 1970s.

Today, the PPP stands as the only political party in the country with a substantial following across all four provinces, tribal areas, and northern regions. It remains committed to offering equal opportunities to every segment of society, irrespective of urban-rural distinctions, sect, religion, or gender.

The PPP’s enduring commitment is towards building a society founded on principles of social justice, the rule of law, and human dignity. As a symbol of the federation, the PPP, from its inception, has championed politics grounded in the idea of a united nation. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, a visionary leader and born reformist, left an indelible mark with his charismatic personality, capable of convincing and leading the nation through his political acumen and wisdom.  —APP
