Prague zoo distributes up to 10 tonnes of ice to animal enclosures when temperatures in the Czech Republic exceed 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit). Polar bears, elephants, bison, takins, otters as well as kea parrots have an opportunity to cool down in heaps of ice at the zoo. Some take a dive into the heap, others roll in the ice or munch on it. Curators sometimes place fish or other food on the ice heaps to attract the animals. The Czech Republic is currently facing a heat wave with temperatures reaching up to 35 degrees Celsius. AFP
