ISLAMABAD: Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz announced on Thursday that the first pre-monsoon rains of the year are expected to begin from Thursday and continue until July 30.

He advised citizens to take precautionary measures to protect crops and lives during this period.

Speaking to a news channel, Sarfaraz stated that the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted light to heavy rain showers accompanied by thunderstorms in Karachi, Islamabad, and other cities across the country on Thursday and Friday. This rainfall is anticipated to bring much-needed relief from the intense heatwave affecting these areas.

Sarfaraz recommended that farmers manage their activities according to the updated weather forecasts and urged tourists to exercise caution to avoid any accidents during the rainy spell. “All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situations,” he added.

When asked about environmental efforts, Sarfaraz encouraged everyone to plant trees, particularly mango seeds, during the monsoon season. He emphasized that individuals should take the initiative to contribute to a greener earth without waiting for the government or NGOs to start such programs, as the monsoon season is ideal for plantation.

Sarfaraz highlighted that the monsoon season, spanning from June to September, offers a significant opportunity for forest growth in the country. The four-month wet season provides trillions of liters of rainwater, essential for seedlings to grow rapidly and establish a strong hold in the soil.
