President Alvi for Enhanced Cooperation Between Pakistan, Azerbaijan

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has stressed upon the need for enhancing cooperation between the supreme audit institutions of Pakistan and Azerbaijan for sharing best auditing practices to improved transparency and financial accountability.

A statement from the President House on Friday said that the President Alvi said that public sector accounting was a key component of financial management within government organizations to ensure transparency and accountability in government spending.

The President made the remarks during a meeting with the visiting Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts of Azerbaijan, Vugar Gulmammadov, who called on him, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, along with his delegation.

The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP), Muhammad Ajmal Gondal, and other senior officials of AGP were present in the meeting.

Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts of Azerbaijan (CAA), Vugar Gulmammadov, informed the President about the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Supreme Audit Institution of Azerbaijan, CAA, and the Supreme Audit Institution of Pakistan.

He said that the MoU would help strengthen friendly ties between the two nations.

The President lauded the signing of the MoU between AGP and CAA, adding that it would enhance cooperation between two countries in the field of Public Sector Auditing. He went on to say that collaboration between CAA and AGP would be beneficial for both the countries.

He also praised the AGP’s role in carrying out peer reviews of the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of Azerbaijan.

The President talking to the delegation, said that Pakistan accorded special importance to its ties with Azerbaijan, which were based on common faith, shared history, and people-to-people contacts. He said that promoting cultural exchanges and boosting cooperation in the cultural and economic fields was important for fostering understanding and mutually beneficial development between the two brotherly countries.

He termed the cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan vital for promoting stability, peace and development in the region.

The President also extended felicitation to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on his re-election in the Presidential elections held on 7th February 2024 and hoped that the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan would be further enhanced during his tenure.
