ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi granted his assent to two bills here on Wednesday after they were passed by the parliament.

The president signed Qanun-e-Shahadat (Amendment) Bill 2023 providing for amending the Qanun-e-Shahadat of 1984.

Dr Alvi also accorded approval to another bill called the Control of Narcotics Substances (Amendment) Bill 2023 which provided for amending the Control of Narcotics Substances Act of 1997.

The president assented to the said bills in the exercise of the powers conferred on him under Article 75 of the constitution. Earlier the bills were approved by both houses of the parliament.

Passing Amendment Bills

It is worth noting the outgoing government has passed over a dozen bills during the last couple of months including several bills today. Experts believe the incumbent government was in a hurry to pass these bills which may create hurdles for the upcoming elected government.
