ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday hailed the premier intelligence agency of Pakistan for arresting core militant Gulzar Imam Shambay.

In his message on Twitter, he said, “I congratulate the Intelligence Agency of Pakistan on the arrest of the militant leader Gulzar Imam Shambay after a very sophisticated and deep operation. This is indeed a great success. Such well-planned actions would go a long way in bringing peace & prosperity to Balochistan.

“I appreciate the ISI, its leadership, and all the personnel who took part in this operation and made it a success. Bravo!”

Gulzar Imam Shambay, a Baloch extremist, was arrested in a significant intelligence operation carried out by the Inter-Services Intelligence on April 7, as announced by Inter-Services Public Relations in a press release.

Shambay, born in Panjgur, started his ideological and militant activities on the BSO militant group’s platform in 2002. During his student days, Shambay joined the extremist organisation BRA.

However, in 2018, when BRA, United Baloch Army, and BLA split, he parted ways with BRA and, alongside Sarfaraz Bengalzai, formed the Baloch Nationalist Army, becoming a prominent figure in the organisation.
