ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has refused to raise additional revenue through taxes by promulgating an ordinance and advised the Federal Government to take the Parliament into confidence on this essential subject.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Ishaq Dar, on Tuesday called on President Dr Arif Alvi and apprised him of the progress in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout package. He informed the president that all modalities had been agreed upon with the IMF.
President Alvi appreciated the efforts of the Government in negotiating an agreement with the IMF team and assured that the state of Pakistan would stand by the commitments made by the Federal Government with the IMF.
Government wants to promulgate an ordinance
The Finance Minister informed that the Government wanted to generate additional revenue through taxes by promulgating an ordinance.
President Alvi advised the finance minister that it would be more appropriate to take the Parliament into confidence on this crucial subject and that a session of the Parliament be called immediately so that the bill is enacted without delay.
