President Alvi rejects mercy appeals of 5 death row convicts

Islamabad: President Arif Alvi has rejected the mercy appeals of 5 criminals who had been given death sentences for their brutal crimes.

Among the five criminals whose appeals for mercy have been rejected by the President are, Muhammad Shaaban, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Akbar and Muhammad Asghar.According to the president’s office, Muhammad Shaban was convicted of rape and murder of a 3-year-old girl, Muhammad Imran killed his wife and two daughters after a domestic dispute, while Muhammad Afzal killed his parents and 6 siblings. Muhammad Akbar and Muhammad Asghar killed 2 people over a minor dispute. The President rejected these appeals under Article 45 of the Constitution, the President has the power to pardon, suspend or reduce the punishments imposed by any court, tribunal or other authority.
