ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday said the empowerment of women in all sectors was a key to ensure progress and development of the country.
He was addressing the First LCCI Women Entrepreneurs Recognition Ceremony 2024 held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The president eulogized the role of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in contributing towards the women empowerment.
He said the LCCI was the first chamber which had organized awards for the women entrepreneurs and advised other chambers to also play similar role for women empowerment.
He added the LCCI should also prepare the women in such a way to enable them to work anywhere across the world.
The president said the LCCI had also supported different programmes started by first lady Begum Samina Alvi such as awareness campaigns of breast cancer and persons with disabilities.
He said there was concrete evidence that because of to the awareness programme, more women were getting early diagnoses of the disease.
He said his wife Samina Alvi had always helped him a lot in politics and other activities.
He added the women in the country often leave their professions after getting married which meant they were wasting the resources of the country.
He urged them not to leave their profession and work with their men counterparts for the development of the country.
Referring to the Gaza atrocities, the president said that women were the most affected during the crisis.
Earlier the president gave away awards to the women entrepreneurs for their services.
President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashif Anwar said unless the government do not give a favorable environment for women, they could not play their due role in trade and investment sector.
