WASHINGTON: In a surprising move, US President Joe Biden made his debut on TikTok, posting a light-hearted 26-second video on Sunday.
Despite previous criticism of the platform by both Republicans and the Biden administration over security concerns and alleged ties to Beijing, the 81-year-old president engaged in playful banter in his inaugural TikTok video.
Touching on topics from politics to the NFL, Biden joked about the Super Bowl and the unfounded conspiracy theory involving pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
While TikTok has faced scrutiny and even bans on official government devices in some states, federal action to restrict the app appears to have stalled.
This move by Biden suggests a shift in attitude towards the platform within the US government.
