MOSCOW: The spokesperson for the Russian president has said that President Vladimir Putin is eager to meet with Masoud Pezeshkian. According to the spokesperson, that the newly-elected president of Iran has already been invited by Russia to attend the next BRICS summit in Kazan.

IRNA cited Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that Iran, as one of the new members of the BRICS group of major emerging economies, has been invited for the BRICS summit scheduled to be held in Kazan in October.

The spokesman said that they hope that the new Iranian president will attend the summit because they will be happy to see him and President Putin is also preparing to hold a meeting Pezeshkian at the BRICS summit.

Earlier, on July 8, President Putin congratulated Pezeshkian on his election win. Later they in a telephone conversation, expressed their readiness to ink the draft of strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.

IRNA reported that the Kremlin had earlier said that President Putin and Pezeshkian also discussed means to boost ties between the two sides while the Russian president wished him success in the responsibility to work as the President of Iran.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday gave his official endorsement of Pezeshkian as country’s ninth president in an official ceremony. This endorsement followed a runoff election in which Pezeshkian emerged victorious against Saeed Jalili.

Pezeshkian is set to be sworn in before parliament on Tuesday, local media reported. His election follows the sudden death of former President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May.

Local media reported that seventy foreign delegates, including presidents and prime ministers of different countries will attend the inauguration of Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.  Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also visit Tehran to attend swearing in ceremony of newly elected Iranian President, officials said.
