ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, reaffirmed on Thursday the nation’s commitment to safeguarding the social, religious, economic, and political rights of minorities in the country.

He said in a message on Minorities’ Day, observed on August 11 in Pakistan. “We assure all minority groups that Pakistan will continue to protect their rights as well as work for their well-being.”

He urged religious leaders and the media to spread awareness of minority rights and to foster a culture of love, unity, tolerance, and brotherhood throughout the country. He hoped society could construct a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan where everyone could prosper and offer their special talents to advance the country.

The president highlighted the distinguished role played by minorities in the nation-building process and appreciated their role in the country’s development.

He expressed his joy that Pakistani minorities had access to all social, political, and economic rights granted by the Pakistani Constitution.

He remarked, “The Constitution guarantees all citizens’ political, economic, and social rights, regardless of their religious beliefs or ethnicity. As Muslims, we find inspiration in the teachings of Islam, which emphatically advocate for the protection of minority rights and equality among all people, fostering a spirit of harmony and unity within our diverse society.”

The president stated that Pakistan had consistently worked to ensure the welfare and maintenance of minorities, including reserving a 5% quota in government jobs and separate seats for minorities in both houses of Parliament to promote their active participation in the political and economic development of the nation.

Along with protecting their houses of worship, measures are also being taken to encourage people and students from minority communities in their educational endeavours by giving grants, financial aid, and scholarships, he continued.

According to him, the actions listed above are evidence of Pakistan’s commitment to creating an inclusive and representative society. The president declared that he had every faith that Pakistan’s minorities would continue to play a crucial part in the country’s development.

Dr. Alvi said, “On this occasion, I extend my warmest wishes to all minority groups in Pakistan, and I am sure that they will continue to contribute towards the socio-economic uplift of our beloved country.”
