ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday stressed the need for expanding the bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan by focusing on trade in value-added products across various sectors to strengthen economic ties and boost mutual prosperity.

President Zardari said this during a meeting with Akyibek Zhaparov Usenbekovich, Chairman of the Cabinet of the Kyrgyz Republic, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.

President Zardari stressed that enhancing trade relations, particularly in sectors like textiles, construction, and technology, would contribute to the mutual prosperity of both nations. He pointed out that Kyrgyzstan could greatly benefit from access to Pakistan’s strategic Karachi and Gwadar ports, which provide direct links to global markets.

“We are eager to broaden our cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in areas of mutual interest, including trade, business, and technology,” said President Zardari. He also thanked Kyrgyzstan for its support in Pakistan’s successful election to the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member.

Akyibek Zhaparov Usenbekovich expressed Kyrgyzstan’s desire to deepen trade relations with Pakistan. He underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation in economic, business, and technology sectors, highlighting the potential for workforce collaboration in Kyrgyzstan’s booming construction and textile industries.

President Zardari also extended his appreciation to the Pakistan government for easing the visa process for Kyrgyz citizens, which he said would further facilitate business and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Both leaders agreed that enhancing economic cooperation is key to fostering stronger bilateral ties, with a focus on expanding trade, investment, and technological partnerships.
