Priest Burnt Alive, Five Worshippers Abducted in Nigeria

ISLAMABAD/ ABUJA: A Catholic priest was burnt to death, two other priests were shot and injured and five worshipers were kidnapped in two separate incidents in central and northern Nigeria.

Police said that “bandits,” after being unable to enter the house of Father Isaac Achi in Nigeria’s Kafin-Koro village, set it on fire, killing the priest on the spot.

According to Nigeria state police spokesman Wasiu Biodun, the bandits set the house on fire and the priest was burnt to death. His lifeless and charred body of the priest was recovered from the ashes, he said

The police spokesperson said that the bandit also shot and wounded another priest, identified as Collins, as he attempted to flee. He said that Collins was shifted to the hospital for treatment.

A few hours later, robbers broke into a Christian home in Kankara district’s Dan Tsauni village and abducted five individuals, preparing for Sunday service at a local church.

Kankara district police spokesperson Gambo Isa told AFP that “the terrorists took five persons from the residence, shot a priest in hand, and fled with the five hostages.”
