Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Assures Collaboration with AJK Leadership for Progress

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the interconnected progress of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), highlighting his government’s commitment to addressing the issues faced by the Kashmiri people.

During a special cabinet meeting in AJK, he announced measures to ensure mutual understanding and seek permanent solutions to key challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the formation of a committee to discuss crucial issues such as water charges and the Neelum Jhelum project, aiming to benefit the people of AJK. He acknowledged recent movements by the AJK populace for their rights, condemning violence instigated by miscreants during the protests. Expressing condolences for those affected, he pledged support under the Shuhada Package for the families of victims.

Prime Minister Shehbaz revealed that his government had released Rs 23 billion to the AJK government, with further consultations planned after an IMF team’s visit to address ongoing issues. He urged AJK authorities to take ownership of these matters, promising similar commitment from the Pakistani side.

Additionally, he directed authorities to expedite the construction of the Mangla Phase-2 project and proposed discussions between federal and AJK officials to devise short, medium, and long-term solutions for the Neelum Jhelum project.

Prime Minister Shehbaz commended the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Kashmir Affairs Minister Amir Muqam, in addressing the demands of the people. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Kashmiris, both morally and diplomatically, highlighting recent international advocacy efforts.

In response, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhary Anwaar ul Haq welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz’s visit, underscoring the significance of Pakistan’s support for AJK. He lauded the swift implementation of directives, emphasizing the mutual value attached to Pakistan-AJK relations.
