ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his profound sorrow over the death of Wu Bangguo, the former Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice Premier of China.
In a heartfelt message on his social media, Sharif honored Wu as an “outstanding” leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a “true friend of Pakistan.” He acknowledged Wu’s significant contributions to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries, highlighting his visit to Pakistan in 2006 as a pivotal moment in their diplomatic ties.
Wu, born in 1941, had a distinguished political career, serving in various high-ranking positions within the CPC and the Chinese government, including multiple terms as Vice Premier and Chairman of the NPC. Prime Minister Sharif extended his condolences to Wu’s family and the people of China during this challenging time, recognizing the lasting impact of Wu’s leadership on Sino-Pakistani relations.
