ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has termed the “Loss and Damage Fund” a realization of the challenge of climate. The Prime Minister was addressing “COP27 and Beyond: Pakistan’s Resilience Challenges” on Thursday.
Shehbaz Sharif told the globe that the challenge of climate change is a serious matter and impact of climate change is not limited only to Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif says Pakistan’s friends in global north have realized issue of climate change
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan’s friends in the global north have realized the significance of climate change. He added that this pushed them to sign a remarkable deal in Egypt as ‘Loss and Damage’ has become a reality in the world.
He said that then, it was not about the agreements and understandings but about practical implementations.
The Prime Minister lauded the efforts of all for achieving the results. He said that unprecedented and deadly floods in Pakistan had affected more than 33 million people. He said that 800 people had died due to recent floods in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister thanked the donor organizations, countries, and locals for supporting the flood-hit people in Pakistan. The PM said that the Loss and Damage fund was articulated by ministers and their teams.
Shehbaz Sharif and Climate change
Shehbaz Sharif added that Pakistan had been seeking justice because it has less than 1 percent contribution to the emission of carbon. The Prime Minister also lauded the role of experts, diplomats and every Pakistani who played a key role to realize the world about the issue of climate change.
On the occasion, Minister for climate change Sherry Rehman said that resilience was key to a sustainable future, adding it is all about climate justice instead of charity. She added that the situation would not stabilize unless the issue of climate was resolved. – APP
