BOGOTÁ: Britain’s Prince Harry urged caution regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and expressed concerns about the divisive nature of social media during a panel discussion in Colombia’s capital Bogotá alongside his wife, Meghan, and Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Márquez.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Colombia at the invitation of Márquez and are scheduled to tour the country.

During the panel at Bogotá’s EAN University, Prince Harry voiced his apprehensions about the future of AI. “AI is frightening, and I believe many people are feeling scared and uncertain,” he stated. “One of my biggest concerns is that as long as social media remains the way it is, we will continue to be divided. We’re no longer debating facts; we’re arguing over misinterpreted information,” he added.

Harry and Meghan established the U.S.-based Archewell Foundation, a non-profit organization that collaborates with charitable groups worldwide. After being welcomed by Márquez in Bogotá, the royal couple visited a school where they spoke with students. They also enjoyed a traditional Colombian dance performance, where Harry clapped alongside Márquez, Colombia’s first Black female vice president and a former environmental activist.

The couple is expected to travel to the western city of Cali this weekend to participate in the Petronio Álvarez Festival, which celebrates Afro-Colombian music and culture.
