Prince Rahim Aga Khan Honored for Services to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Award of “Nishan-i-Pakistan” upon Prince Rahim Aga Khan in recognition of his commendable services and role in the progress, development and betterment of Pakistan and its people.

According to a statement issued by Presidency, the prestigious award was given during a special investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday, which was attended by ministers, members of Parliament, diplomats and government officials.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan was awarded in recognition of his leadership role in advancing path-breaking initiatives in Pakistan in commercial banking, insurance, microfinance, sustainable tourism and the renewable energy sector through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

He has led the establishment of environmental stewardship policies and best practices to address climate change. The Network has also given access to financial services for nearly 50 million people in Pakistan.

Later, Prince Rahim Aga Khan called on President Asif Ali Zardari, in which they discussed the role of the Aga Khan Development Network in Pakistan’s socio-economic development. Chairman HBL, Sultan Ali Allana, and senior government officials were also present on the occasion.

The President was briefed about the role and projects being undertaken by AKDN in various areas of Pakistan. The President thanked Prince Rahim Aga Khan for visiting the country and expressed the hope that he would frequently visit Pakistan.

During the meeting, the President stressed the need to focus on the country’s educational development. He lauded Prince Rahim Aga Khan for upholding the multi-generational legacy of the Aga Khan family which had contributed enormously to the socio-economic development of Pakistan.
