LONDON: Pro-Palestinian protesters have blocked roads outside the British parliament in London, demanding an immediate truce in the Hamas- Israel conflict and clashing with police who stopped them from marching across Westminster Bridge, western media reported on Saturday.

London has seen regular and sometimes large protest demonstrations calling for Israel to stop the bombardment of Gaza. Palestinian health ministry says around 22,722 people have so far been killed in brutal Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.

Videos posted on different platforms of social media showed police preventing protest demonstrators’ access to the bridge and media also reported that there had been several scuffles.

Police officials said they had implemented a legal order limiting the location of the protest demonstrators. Those who declined to comply with an order of the authorities to leave could be apprehended, police maintained.

Saturday’s protest comes two days before the UK parliament returns to work following its Christmas break. The rally was designed to push political leaders to adopt a harder position towards Israel.

So far, the UK has stopped short of calling for an immediate truce.  Most previous protest demonstrations in London have been coordinated with police officials and remained largely peaceful but police stated the organizers of Saturday’s protests had declined to share details of their actions.
