ISLAMABAD/DELAWARE: Professional American wrestling star Jay Briscoe – whose real name was Jamin Pugh – has died aged 38.

Briscoe died in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware on Tuesday, several news outlets reported. Delaware police tweeted about a fatal accident on Tuesday evening in the town of Laurel without naming the victims.

Tony Khan, the CEO of All Elite Wrestling, announced Briscoe’s death in a tweet.

Following reports of Briscoe’s death in a car crash, the wrestler’s wife, Ashley Pugh, posted an update on Facebook revealing that his daughter Gracie was undergoing surgery.

“We need prayers!” she said, adding that the family’s other daughter Jayleigh had also suffered serious injuries in the accident.

World Wrestling Entertainment chief content officer and renowned wrestler Paul Levesque – better known by his ring name Triple H – also tweeted about the passing of Briscoe. He paid condolences to the bereaved family and said that Briscoe was “an incredible performer who created a deep connection with wrestling fans across the globe.”

Following the incident, Laurel School District described the crash as an “unthinkable tragedy”, and asked the residents to “keep the Pugh Family in your thoughts and prayers.”

A champion in tag-team wrestling

Briscoe joined ROG in 2002 and was widely considered one of the best tag-team wrestlers in the world. He competed alongside his brother, Mark, with the two known as The Briscoe Brothers.

They became ROH World Tag Team Champions 13 times and were last year inducted into the inaugural class of the ROH Hall of Fame.
