PESHAWAR: Unscheduled and prolonged power outages in winters, lasting 12-15 hours in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making citizens’ daily lives increasingly miserable.
The unexpected power outages disrupt routines, affecting both residential and commercial activities. Citizens complained that they were not provided electricity despite paying hefty bills. A shopkeeper named Aman Ullah said that if the government cannot provide electricity in winter when there is low demand, what will they do in summer?
Areas that are worst hit by unscheduled load-shedding include Danishabad, Sufaid Dehri, Bara Gate, Muzaffarabad, Dalazak Road, Lalazar Colony Charsadda Road, Palosi, and Kohat Road.
This severe situation has sparked public outrage, leading citizens to protest against the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO).
Citizens, expressing their distress, called upon the government to address the issue promptly, emphasizing the hardships faced by both residential and commercial consumers.
Citizens also complained about PESCO officials turning off power during operations against power theft, further exacerbating consumers’ challenges. Meanwhile, a PESCO spokesperson believed that areas with 100 percent bill payments were exempt from load-shedding, while regions with substantial line losses were experiencing power interruptions.
