ISLAMABAD: A persistent severe cold wave maintains its grip across Pakistan, leading to the closure of major motorways due to dense fog. Lahore, the country’s cultural capital, has implemented fog rules, significantly reducing visibility and causing disruptions in traffic flow. Motorway M3, spanning from Faizpur to Rajana, and Motorway M5, extending from Sher Shah to Zahir Peer, are both closed due to the adverse weather conditions.
The closure also extends to the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway M11, compounding the challenges faced by commuters. In Lodhran, low visibility is affecting traffic on national highways, adding to the difficulties caused by the ongoing cold wave and foggy conditions. The situation emphasizes the need for caution and adherence to safety guidelines during travel in affected regions.
Additionally, Pakistan grapples with air pollution, with both Lahore and Karachi ranking among the most polluted cities globally. Karachi recently claimed the fifth spot, following Lahore, highlighting the severity of air quality challenges in major urban centers. Authorities continue to monitor and manage the multifaceted impact of adverse weather conditions, urging residents and travelers to exercise caution and stay informed about updates and safety measures.
