Protesters Rally in New York to Express Solidarity with Palestine

NEW YORK: Thousands of people on Friday took on to the streets of New York to express solidarity with Palestinians of Gaza as Israel gears for a possible ground attack in besieged Gaza Strip.

They were chanting slogans against the Israeli bombing in Gaza and cried of Free Palestine.

Protestors also called for an end to Israeli occupation and the liberation of the Palestinian territories.

Demonstrators accuse Israel of massacre

The demonstrators mostly youth of all origins were carrying Palestinian flags and accused Israel of massacre asking the US to withdraw its support for Israel.

The ongoing Israeli military’s airstrikes have taken a devastating toll, with nearly 1,800 Gaza residents martyred, including over 600 children, in waves of missile strikes on the densely populated enclave. Tensions have escalated across the Middle East, triggering protests in support of the Palestinians.

Thousands of Palestinians are attempting to leave the southern Gaza after Israel warned them to evacuate before an expected ground attack.

Liz Zacharia, a professor attending the New York protest said that she was extremely worried about the situation of Gaza.

She stressed the colonial project of Israel should come to an end by now. Protesters chanted that from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.

Laibah Faiaz said it is duty of every Muslim and human being to raise a strong voice against Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

It is pertinent to mention that New York is a home to the largest Jewish population outside of Israel.

About 200 pro-Palestinian demonstrators also held a rally in the southern US city of Miami.

A heavy police contingent was deployed to ensure a safe distance between pro-Palestine and pro-Israel demonstrators across the street.

Anas Amireh, a Palestinian immigrant, said Irael is committing war crimes in Gaza.
