RAWALPINDI: Islamabad United on Monday inflicted a 29-run defeat on Peshawar Zalmi during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine at the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi.
After being put in to bat first by Peshawar Zalmi skipper Babar Azam, Islamabad United posted a challenging total of 196/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Despite losing the key wicket of Alex Hales on the first ball of the innings, skipper Shadab Khan led from the front with a sensational knock of 80 runs. Agha Salman contributed with a valuable 37, while Azam Khan’s unbeaten cameo of 29 propelled Islamabad United to a formidable total. Saim Ayub was the pick of the bowlers for Peshawar Zalmi, claiming two crucial wickets, while Wood and Irshad bagged one wicket each.
In response, Peshawar Zalmi fell short of the target, managing to score 167/9 in their 20 overs. Islamabad United’s bowlers put up an impressive performance, restricting the opposition’s batting lineup.
Shadab Khan’s all-round brilliance played a crucial role in Islamabad United’s victory, overshadowing Aamir Jamal’s batting heroics for Peshawar Zalmi. Shadab Khan’s commanding innings with the bat, coupled with his leadership on the field, guided Islamabad United to a well-deserved win.
The victory for Islamabad United marked a significant turnaround from their previous encounter against Peshawar Zalmi, where they faced defeat.
